February 2013 review

This month was my best month ever in terms of winnings, volume and VPP's. I managed this, by finally not checking HM results in mid-sessions (I kept saying that I will do this for some time but it was harder to do than just saying it). This really helped me put in long sessions without tilting too mutch and is the best way to aproach poker, for me at least. I have allways done well in my long sessions and poorly in my short sessions and I almost allways start each session with loosing money, and if I play long enough I only have very few losing sessions.

My winrate was not spectacular(it was smaller than what I had last year) and I did not run that well either(there is quite a bit of all in ev gap and a lot of setups). The tables where worse than they where last year maybe because the breakeven regs got coaching and now play better. I have to say that have also spewed about 500-1000$ but I guess this is lower than other regs do it in a 180k hand sample, so I don't feel to bad about it(I posted some of the spews in the hands I posted).

Next month I plan to play at least 200k hands, to work on my game versus shortstackers and to play zoom when tables suck. Here are the final numbers and graphs:

February 2013 poker results:

185,2604 Hands Played  --- 15,500 VPP's
+$3,218 (cash game profits)
+450$ (million $ freeroll cash)
+45$ (100k freeroll cash)
+$868 (FPP value)
------------------------------------------------------------------
+$4,581 (Total profits)

My best pokerstars moment:

I started playing poker on pokerstars a little more than a year ago. I tried out all the formats availeble including sng's, mtt's and cash games across many ranges of buy-ins. My best moment while playing on Pokerstars was when I realized that I could be a long term winning player in the online poker games on pokerstars, and that I was actually winning more money than at my regular job. So at the start of january 2012 I quit my job and started playing micro-small stakes poker for a living, on pokerstars. My goal was to reach supernova status and I managed that in december 2012. In the process I played over a million poker hands and a few thousand sitngo's and I had the oportunity to play with some great players and improve my poker skills. During this wonderfull period I was also fortunate to play on a milestone table which was also very exciting for me. The only thing that I still want to acomplish is to reach the final table of an mtt and so far I did not even get close to reaching this goal. But there is a lot of variance in poker and I will keep trying.

I have to say that pokerstars is definetly the best online poker site, that is out there, by far, at all the possible categories (email support, the biggest player pools, software quality, possibility to play on mobile devices, the best rakeback, the best online poker school etc). I would also like to thank pokerstars for giving back to its players in various promotions like the wbcoop. If I win the prize for the best blogger this year I will donate 20% of it to a charity and invest the rest of the money.

I want to wish everyone good luck during the wbcoop and scoop and I will see you at the tables. :)

Epic software fail

The weirdest hand I ever play happened today. Up until the river I saw that I had JJ.  I only saw in the replayer after the hand that I had J5o. The villain was a 80/40/15 whale with history so I wanted to get my JJ all in... This happened to other players also(I read about it on 2+2)....

Posibble impact of online poker mass-tabling over a long time

Dusty Schmidt made an interesting post on his blog about the effects that mass-tabling online poker had on his brain: "After hearing some exciting things about my brain, I then got the bad news. The bad news is that what poker puts the human brain through is unsustainable. I was told that if I choose to play online poker as a full time career, I will likely die of a stroke before the age of 50. They said that the human brain simply does not have the capacity to put itself through 8+ hour days of mass multi-table online poker. They said that playing online poker to that degree was quite literally one of the very worst things you can do to your brain and body. They said it wasn’t quite as bad as being an NFL player or someone who works full time around organic solvents, but it wasn’t far off. It was on the doctor’s urging that I retire from full time online poker."

This is some really scary stuff and shows us that online poker can't really be a long term job for us. I usually feel really tired after I have a 8-12 hour session in which I 24-30 table, but never realized that mass-tabling could also affect our long term healph. So I guess I need to work hard in the next couple of years to put some money away for the rest of my life and than quit playing poker.

Nit?

In my last post I showed a hand where I stacked off with top 2 pair vs a reg with which I have a lot of history. Mr. Kreuznagel started berating and making fun of me, after the hand, on the 2+2 forum. He also made this picture for me (it is my graph from this month kindly edited by him):
About the 9/7/1 part, I want to tell Mr. Kreuznagel that I sometimes stack off lighter even when deep and when facing regulars as I will show in the hand below which I played today. And maybe if he fixes his holdem manager he might have better reads on me. And I want to thank Mr. Kreuznagel for making the solid hero call with J3s and for playing "well" in general and for constantly splashing around at the tables.
